The goose is loose and it’s savage! Before you decide to spend nearly $50k on a dealer marked up Focus or call yourself financially responsible and wait to “steal” one of these at $37k, deflate that $1,200 tire change on an econobox hype-mobile and realize what the car is first. Then make sure it’s really what you want to do before you go in on an RS, Oppo-US (EurOppos already know what’s up).

But what if that became a crossover?

I actually think a high-powered, budget Macan S would be awesome. The Escape, Sportage, and Outback (if that counts) are the only three compact CUVs that come to mind putting down power in the mid-200hp bracket. I would love a 325 hp and 380 lb-ft Ford Escape Sport, but that would be a touring car instead of a hot hatch.
I guess it would need to be a subcompact CUV to be like a ute-Focus in terms of sporting ability. Something like a GLA 45 AMG....huh, I now understand how we ended up with subcompact performance CUVs.

You forgot the Forester XT.
In terms of subcompacts the Juke has a turbo, but the cargo space is iffy and only the very expensive NISMOs make more than 200hp. The Soul is coming with the 1.6L turbo out of the Veloster and it weighs less than 2900 lbs...*that* could be fun if they don’t screw it up.
If only people would buy: HR-V with the 1.5L turbo, a Mazdaspeed CX-3, or a Lexus NX200t with a stick...while I’m on it, Lexus should make a CT200t as well.
